The Translational Research Institute (TRI) is a one-stop-shop for discovery, production, clinical testing and manufacturing of new biopharmaceuticals.
The 32,000m2 building is the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere. The seven storey building comprises four floors of laboratory research space, plus space for research support facilities, administration and teaching.
The TRI combines the strengths of Queensland’s leading translational researchers from the Princess Alexandra Hospital, the University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, the Mater Medical Research Institute and the Queensland Government and houses more than 600 researchers.
The $35 million BPA ‘Biologics Plant of the Future’ facility was constructed adjacent to the TRI and comprises a 6-level building dedicated to specific GMP cleanroom manufacturing, which demands the highest possible standard of finishes.
In 2014, the TRI received the 'Professional Excellence Award for Commercial Construction $100 million plus' from the Australian Institute of Building (National), and the 'Queensland Professional of the Year' and 'Professional Excellence Award - Commercial Construction $100 million plus' from the Australian Institute of Building (Queensland Chapter). It also received 'Project of the Year' and 'Health and Education Facilities over $125 million' awards from the Master Builders Queensland (Brisbane).
