Overseas Passenger Terminal

#Overview

A showcase of excellence, the major upgrade to Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal delivered increased passenger capacity as well as operational efficiencies for the busy terminal. Originally contracted to deliver Stage One which involved extending and refurbishing the ground floor, adding a new mezzanine level and extension to the south forecourt, our exceptional work led to the award of Stage Two. This involved the strip out and base-building upgrade to one tenancy as well as the refurbishment of Customs Hall, façade, roadway and remediation of 1,800 square metres of existing ceiling linings.

Collaborating to achieve the highest standard in safety

Safety excellence

In such a dynamic, live environment with significant public interfaces, the efforts of the project team, subcontractors, building operatives, client and the entire workforce combined to produce a quality terminal delivered to the highest safety standard. This was made possible through initiatives such as pre-commencement meetings for major subcontractors. This formal review process identified specific requirements and potential risks to be mitigated as well as ensured all parties had a unified understanding of safety expectations. 

Our agile approach to safety management meant the team was ready to review, change and improve systems and controls in response to any identified risks, minor incidents, or when commencing new works. Public safety was our top priority, and this was achieved through innovative sequencing as well as programming works around public areas such as negotiating temporary changes to the Maritime Security Plans.

Stakeholder engagement

With works carried out in a busy operating terminal, close engagement with all project stakeholders was paramount to ensure the health and safety of all who accessed the facility with minimal impact to operations. This important component was managed with sensitivity and diligence through our project manager, who was appointed based on his substantial experience and leadership in stakeholder engagement.
