Rewards and Benefits

We appreciate that healthy, happy people make great things happen.  As a Watpac employee, you will have access to Healthy Foundations – our health and wellbeing program.  Benefits of this program include access to dietician services, professional counselling, financial counselling and discounts for gym membership and private health cover.

Our employee benefits package also includes paid parental leave and discounts on travel, retail, home improvement and finance products.

All permanent salaried employees can participate in Watpac’s Salary Packaging program. Salary packaging can offer significant salary benefits by reducing your taxable income. The Salary Packaging program provides employees with the option to salary sacrifice a number of different items as part of their total remuneration package including work-related electronic equipment, professional memberships, superannuation and novated leases. Our Workplace Giving program also allows employees to reduce their taxable income while supporting a great cause.

Learning and Development

Our success and competitive advantage is based on the specialist skills and knowledge of our people. That is why we support continuous learning and offer a diverse range of learning and development programs for employees at all stages in their career.

Our programs are integral to building long-term, dynamic career paths for our employees and ensure they are at the cutting edge of the industries in which we operate.

Our training program includes on-the-job instruction from in-house professionals to simulation and online learning. Beyond this, we partner with specialist training organisations to develop courses that are relevant, practical and innovative.  We also look beyond the construction and mining industries for inspiration and have partnered with many of Australia’s leading academic institutions to challenge traditional ways of thinking for our middle and senior management teams.

Career planning

With us, you have a real opportunity to carve out a meaningful career path and reach your professional goals.  We value and nurture talent so that every employee has the opportunity to increase their level of skill and responsibility. Our employees work with respected and experienced industry leaders, participate in learning and development initiatives, and contribute to some of Australia’s most high-profile projects.

As a national company with offices in most Australian states, national secondment opportunities are available for employees.

Young Professionals Program

Our Young Professionals Program (YPP) provides early-career and graduate employees with structured support and development opportunities to build their knowledge and excel in their career.

YPP offers structured on-going training, support and a wide range of technical, professional and personal development opportunities. Apart from access to our exceptional training, support and coaching is provided through a supervisor and an appointed mentor, facilitated by a senior manager. The program is delivered nationally and brings together our graduate employees from across Australia to network with each other and our senior management team.

Apprenticeships, Traineeships, Cadetships and Graduates

Watpac believes that our future success relies on providing opportunities to the next generation of leaders – our trainees, apprentices, cadets and graduates. Through our structured programs, these employees are able to fully participate in projects across the country and learn invaluable on-the-job skills. Apprentices, trainees, cadets and graduates are also eligible to participate in the Young Professionals Program.

Traineeships, apprenticeships and graduate positions are advertised as they become available.

Cadetships are organised through partner universities offering courses in construction or engineering.  These roles are designed to work in line with a cadet’s existing study commitments.  As part of the program, cadets put their learning into practice by performing a wide variety of tasks on real projects.  The program is structured to give cadets diverse and challenging experiences and a pathway into a construction career. You can learn about the experiences of some of our cadets here

Inclusion and Diversity

As a leading national construction, civil and mining contractor, Watpac is committed to providing an inclusive workplace and an organisational culture that embraces diversity and equality.

We believe genuine diversity leads to increased business performance and an enriched culture that helps foster an environment of innovation, inspiration, candour and commitment.

Watpac has made it a priority to attract women to all types of roles within our business and to draw upon the vast and culturally diverse talent pool available to us.

Our goal is not only to be an employer of choice, but a place that embraces and accepts differences where all individuals feel valued, where they are treated fairly, and where they have the opportunity and motivation to excel in their chosen careers.

To this end we are implementing several key measures to encourage diversity and inclusion:

  • Inclusion and Diversity Committee, with a designated Inclusion and Diversity Co-ordinator in each operating state.  This committee is developing a vision, strategy and action plan to address diversity and inclusion across the Group.
  • Indigenous engagement policy and development of a Reconciliation Action Plan
  • Maternity and paternity/partner leave schemes for permanent employees
  • Comprehensive Workplace Harassment and Bullying, Domestic Violence, and Diversity policies
