Watpac congratulated Townsville City Council on winning the prestigious Urban Development Institute of Australia's best urban renewal project for the Flinders Street Mall Redevelopment.

The redevelopment, constructed by Watpac’s civil and mining business, was recognised by the UDIA for outstanding urban renewal – a prize that is hotly-contested nationally.

Watpac Limited (“Watpac”) (ASX: WTP), one of Australia’s leading construction, civil and mining, and property groups, is pleased to report an after-tax profit of $26.8 million for the year ended 30 June 2010. Net operating profit before tax is up 232 per cent on the previous corresponding period and net profit after tax reflects an increase of 138 per cent. This translates to a 77 per cent improvement in earnings per share.

Watpac Construction has today been awarded the construction of the $195 million prestigious Translational Research Institute (TRI) on the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) site in Brisbane. The Translational Research Institute will be a first for Australia. A low vacancy rate coupled with higher demand for A-grade office space has translated into positive forecasts for the Sydney commercial property market. In their Autumn 2010 Market Indicators Report for Sydney metropolitan office space, Colliers International reported a decline in vacancy rates in smaller office markets, such as the Sydney Olympic Park/Homebush Bay, Rhodes, South Sydney, and CBD Fringe areas.
