Watpac achieves $100M property sales target

Watpac has entered into a contract to sell its 8 Australia Avenue retail and commercial development at Sydney Olympic Park to Centuria Capital, bringing its total property sales for the 2010/2011 financial year to $100 million.

Greg Kempton, Watpac Managing Director, said the Company had delivered on its target of reaching $100 million of property asset sales notwithstanding challenging market conditions.

Watpac Limited’s (ASX: WTP) contracting divisions have secured approximately $200 million worth of work since the company successfully completed a capital-raising in early September. The Civil & Mining division has won a number of projects across Australia in recent months, including the $4.5 million Bendigo Chinese Precinct redevelopment, the $11.6 million Australian Gardens Cranbourne, and the $40.4 million Douglas Mineral Sands Mining projects in Victoria.

The contract for the construction of a new 13-storey research facility was signed by Watpac's Managing Director Greg Kempton and QIMR's Chair Professor John Hay today. Upon completion in early 2012, the Smart State Medical Research Centre will accommodate 20 new research laboratories, increaseing QIMR's staff capacity by more than 60 per cent to around 1,200.

Watpac's Construction division has been appointed Managing Contractor for Stage 1 of the $126 million Carrara Stadium Redevelopment that will become the home ground for the 17th AFL team, the Gold Coast Football Club. The stadium will be redeveloped to a capacity of 27,500 when it is completed in 2011 and is designed to allow for increased seating capacity in the future.

In an exceptional financial performance, publicly listed construction and property company Watpac Limited (ASX: WTP) has reported a 43.91 per cent increase in after-tax profit, and will give its shareholders a 22 per cent increase in fully franked dividends this year compared to 2007. Shareholders can expect a final fully franked dividend of 13.5 cents per share as the Company's 2008 total dividends rose to 22 cents per share, compared to 18.0 cents in 2007.

JMS signed the contract with BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliances (BMA) on Friday 1 August, the same day Watpac officially acquired JMS. The project represents the first contract JMS has won since the acquisition.

Watpac Limited has taken its first steps toward becoming a national business by acquiring the JMS Civil and Mining Pty Ltd (JMS) Group, a business expected to generate around $120 million in revenue in the 2008/2009 financial year. The move is Watpac's first foray into markets beyond the eastern seaboard, and follows the Company's strategic plan of both product and geographic expansion while building on its existing portfolio and skills sets.

A major expansion and redevelopment of the Hervey Bay marina at Urangan has been announced today by the Hon Paul Lucas MP, Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure and Planning, and the Hon Andrew McNamara MP, Minister for Sustainability, Climate Change and Innovation and Member for Hervey Bay. Watpac together with the Seymour Group has been chosen as the preferred proponent by the Queensland Government to undertake the development.

Continuing its stellar profit run, Queensland's largest publicly listed construction and development company, Watpac Limited (ASX: WTP), announced a 29 per cent increase in its after-tax profit for the half year to 31 December 2007. Shareholders continue to benefit with a 21 per cent increase in fully franked dividends this period compared with 2006.
